Abiquiu Lake

When someone who is disabled, wants to figure out ways to pursue their passion for outdoor hobbies, Global Opportunities Unlimited is here, and we always give 110% trying to figure it out.

When George had a stroke 6 years ago he went from avidly hunting, camping, and fishing to trying to figure out how to do what he really enjoys. This can be a huge obstacle to overcome without support.

It was 6 years before George and Global Opportunities found each other. Once we knew what our goal was (Fishing) it only took us 1 month to set up a walleye fishing trip to Abiquiu Lake. George, his son Joaquin, his grandson Aidan, and the Global Opportunitiesvolunteers headed off to Abiquiu Saturday July 25th. We took the scenic drive through Cuba and arrived at the lake to beautiful blue skies. Before noon George had a couple walleye and a couple bass. Then, wham! George caught a 30 inch 11 pound walleye and his best ever. He was excited, happy, and satisfied knowing he can still enjoy one of his favorite hobbies, fishing in the great outdoors. “We could not have done this without you” said Joaquin. This is why we customized our pontoon boat to have an open deck and wide gates allowing easy access for power wheelchair users like George.
